Here is a vintage late-’60s/early-’70s Brothers Furniture whiskey barrel table and (4) matching swivel chairs. Absolutely the coolest of the kitschy, an entire catalog of whiskey barrel furnitiure made of re-appropriated Jack Daniel’s whiskey barrels was offered through many stores in the Midwest during the late-1960’s. While lacking the elegance of other mid-century pieces, the diamond-tufted Naugahyde chairs complemented by the half-barrel game table are a masterpiece all their own. Utterly perfect for any so-called mancave, yet choice for any interesting interior, this set exudes immediate appeal.
Many variations seemed to have been offered, but this particular one has the coolest table top I’ve been able to find. The Formica top has a very attractive faux woodgrain with bowtie-joint (butterfly key) appearance, which is actually quite amazing on it’s own. The table top is 48″ wide x 28.5″ tall. The set is incredibly heavy, the sturdiness of such should not be questioned, and is totally ready for any bar brawl.
The condition of the set is good. Several seam seperations between the diamond-shaped patches would keep it from being in excellent shape, though they could probably be easily repaired. The perimeter band of Formica on the table top has several imperfection, though the top itself is perfectly intact.
