This is a factory matched pair of 1996 AKG C-12 VR tube microphones. These particular examples, serial numbers 861 and 875, are in near mint condition and include the original hard case, the original N-12 VR power supplies (serial numbers 1307 and 1324), the original cables, the original paperwork, and an authentic AKG “Factory Matched Pair Form”.
This is a factory matched stereo pair from AKG, and as mentioned, the set includes the original COA confirming such. When it came time for the mics to be maintained, they were sent (at great expense) back to AKG to be fully serviced in 2002. The original service tags are also included.
With approximately 2,500 original C12s produced, finding a first generation might become less likely and quite costly. Additionally, do not underestimate the quality of these early reissue (made in 1996) C12 VR mics.
Perhaps the most exciting part, is that there are two. Yes, not just one amazing mic, but two matching ones. While the C12 can be used on just about anything, having 2 allows for a pretty amazing opportunity to apply the best mics necessary for the recording job.
One of the most famous tube microphones in the history of recording was the legendary AKG C 12. In spite of vast changes in microphone engineering, these microphones are still very much sought after and extremely expensive. Therefore, studio engineers vigorously demanded a rerun. The C 12 VR is an exact replica of the original C 12, from the capsule sound to the original 6072A vacuum tube. The only difference is that its self noise and some components were optimized to meet the current state of the art recording technology standards.
No less than nine remotely selectable polar patterns, the legendary large-diaphragm capsule, and an original 6072A vacuum tube provide a sound that is simply beyond words. The C 12 VR comes complete with an aluminum carrying case, power supply, cables, (1) windscreen, spider type shock mount, and all the paperwork.
