Here is a used 1997 Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Custom 24 electric guitar. Considered the original PRS, being the first model Smith presented at a trade show nearly 30 years ago in ’85, the Custom 24 was immediately recognized as the accessible hybrid success it remains.
This 100% all original example, serial number 731774, features; an incredibly attractive flame maple “10 Top” enhanced by a classic Cherry “McCarty” Sunburst finish, Gold hardware, original HFS and Vintage Bass humbucking pickups, earlier style electronic setup with master volume and tone controls and 3 way tone selector, locking winged Schaller tuning machines, PRS floating tremolo with matching whammy bar, and original hard case.
Recently purchased from the original owner, this particular ’97 PRS Custom 24 is in very nice shape. Aside from a large, somewhat distracting, scratch in the clear coat on the top of the body (see photos), the guitar would otherwise be considered to be in very excellent/near mint shape. The scratch can most likely be made to disappear if a luthier added just the smallest amount of clear lacquer to fill in the profile and depth. There are no structural issues whatsoever, and the guitar does not have any breaks, cracks, repairs, nor modifications.
The guitar plays like butter and sounds fantastic. Simple and straightforward, the accessibility of the electronic arrangement enables awesome tone in all settings. The pattern regular profile neck feels incredible, and the large frets enable the absolute easiest playability. It was recently restrung with Pyramid .009s, and is an absolute joy. The guitar weighs 8 lbs. and 2 oz., and feels featherweight in your hands.
