This is a used 1997 Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster made by, master builder and vintage Fender restorer, Jay (J) W Black. Completely custom-ordered, this absolutely incredible master built Strat, serial number DL 11258, features a stunning 2-piece book-matched quilted maple top over an Ash body complemented by a highly-figured birdseye maple neck. Ordered through Richie Sambora’s Custom Shop connection, this was a no expense spared project of privilege. It is unlikely that another was built with the same specs, and ordering a comparable Strat form the Custom Shop today would be in excess of $10,000.00.
In addition to the exotic combination of woods previously mentioned, this amazing specimen also features; a 22-fret fingerboard with pearl inlays, a pearloid pickguard with matching tremolo cavity plate, Custom Shop Texas Special pickups, CTS pots, cavity routes painted with black shielding paint, graduated Kluson-style tuning machines, the original tremolo arm, the original bridge cover, all of the original paperwork and the original black vinyl case.
This Strat is in absolutely perfect cosmetic condition with no evidence of playing wear whatsoever. The hardware is slightly oxidized from having been stored near the ocean, but the luster and sheen of the cherry sunburst body and natural birdseye maple neck look pristine. Aside from surface patina on several pieces of metal hardware, this guitar is a 10/10.
The guitar plays beautifully, and the Texas Specials sound fantastic. It’s a truly impressive instrument with regard to both form and function.
