Here is a vintage 1981 Jim Kelley F.A.C.S. “Foot Activated Channel Switching” Reverb Model amplifier by Active Guitar Electronics. This particular 1 x 12″ combo, serial number AB0170, is in very excellent all original condition and includes the original Power Attenuator and cable! Considered one of the very best early boutique amps, the tone of this model has famously rivaled others, even those crafted by Dumble himself, and have long been considered the ultimate in accessible artisan-made amplification. Far superior to any Mesa from any era, this Jim Kelley Reverb Model produces the finest clean tone imaginable, so don’t hesitate because Kelley amps are becoming quite difficult to find, and this one is particularly great.
This Jim Kelley Reverb Model utilizes: (4) Jim Kelley-branded Groove Tubes 6V6 power tubes and (5) (JJ and Sovtek) 12AX7 preamp tubes through the original 1 x 12″ JBL K 120 speaker.
This beautiful example was recently purchased from a studio in the San Francisco region which had it safely stored within a custom-made Studio Slips zip-up cover for the past several years. It appears to have been meticulously cared for, as the original wicker/cane grill is in near perfect shape, and the black vinyl tolex is also extremely well-preserved.
The amp has been thoroughly tested, and sounds fantastic. Clean, yet sweet; warm, but still articulate, it exemplifies the epitome of musical and pleasant bell-like tone. Tested with a variety of single-coil pickups and humbuckers, it really responds well most guitars, and is an all-around perfect player’s piece.
Studio owners, producers, players, and collectors alike all have good reason to find Jim Kelley amps a highly attractive commodity worth owning.
