This is a vintage 1981 Gibson Les Paul Custom electric guitar. This example, serial number 82161583, features a very rare (approximately 50 ever made) bronze-to-gold sunburst finish commonly referred to as “Gold Burst” or alternatively known as “Harvest Burst.” Concurrently produced alongside the famous Silver Burst Customs, this instrument differs in that it, quite appropriately, sports gold hardware instead of chrome. Very attractive and really cool, this guitar also boasts a matching pair of Tim Shaw humbucking pickups which measure at 7.59Ω (neck) and 7.51Ω (bridge). The pickups are stamped “392 581” and “393 781” which indicate final inspection as of May and July of ’81. The original CTS pots are stamped “137 81xx” and “137 8045.” The guitar weighs 9 pounds and 14 ounces. It includes the original hard plastic “Chainsaw” case which is missing the original plastic logo plate.
The guitar has been refretted, and it feels fantastic. As can be seen, it exhibits wear consistent with serious playing. Lots of neck wear, tons of buckle rash, etc. All of this adds to it’s authentic charm and overall vintage vibe. The guitar is in perfect structural condition with no breaks, no cracks, and no repairs. One knob has been replaced, otherwise, it’s 100% all original.
