This is a vintage (circa 1980) BC Rich Mockingbird electric guitar. This particular Koa wood example, serial number 84364, is in very excellent 100% all original condition and includes the original hard shell case! Considered by B.C. Rich enthusiasts to be the best design of his innovative electric guitars, this masterpiece was created during Bernie Rico’s absolute prime as a skilled luthier and high-end manufacturer. Famous for over-the-top body forms, sharp protruding cutaways and an elaborately exotic appearance, BC Rich instruments became synonymous with the theatrics of ’80s music. This BC Rich Mockingbird is an absolutely fantastic example, and it even includes some era appropriate extras to convert the typically non-matching brass parts to chrome!
As mentioned, this Koa wood example features a 5-piece, neck through, body construction with (2) thin maple laminates sandwiched between incredible and large planks of Koa. It also sports; an intonatable Leo Quan Badass bridge, a DiMarzio Super Distortion humbucking pickup in the bridge position, a DiMarzio PAF pickup in the neck position, an advanced electronic setup that incorporates a built-in preamp toggle, a phasing toggle and a series/parallel toggle, a rosewood fingerboard with small diamond inlays, chrome Grover imperial tuning machines with stair step buttons and the original black hardshell case with black interior.
Incredibly versatile and simply a joy to play, this Mockingbird is setup for easy playability and effortless string-bending. The DiMarzios both sound fantastic, and weighing under 7 1/2 pounds, this light weight guitar is resonant and responsive. With no issues whatsoever, this B.C. Rich Mockinbird has never been modified nor repaired and remains in perfectly intact all original condition. As mentioned, it also includes original era appropriate extras which would enable an owner to swap out the original brass parts with those that aren’t.
