1979 Hofner 500/1

This is a vintage 1979 Hofner 500/1 violin bass guitar. Most notably played by Sir Paul McCartney, this iconic hollowbody bass is instantly recognizable to even those whom are not familiar with basic guitar makes or models. This particular Multivox era example, serial number 11790, is in very fine 100% all original condition, and includes the original formfit hard shell case! This interesting, and somewhat rare, version is pretty much identical to those made during the late-60’s, just assembled later. It has the same blade pickups, same hardware, and the same neck and body construction, though some minor detailing is different.

This Hofner 500/1 violin bass features:
-Violin shape body design
-German spruce top
-Figured (super flamed) maple back and sides
-Bound Rosewood fingerboard
-Double-bound body
-512B “Blade” pickups
-Silver silkscreen logo
-Hofner logo pickguard
-Original form-fit hard case

The bass features absolutely impeccable action with highly complementary classic Hofner tone. Clearly, it features the archetypal Hofner, rich yet percussive, bass tone with coincidentally great action. The neck is perfectly straight, which is often not the case, and the low action enables easy playability. The original electronics are in perfect working condition, and all of the switches and potentiometers function without producing scratchy and dirty noises. There is no substantial wear on the bass, and the overall cosmetic condition is very excellent. Absolutely perfect for recording, while also great for those who want a killer sounding bass for live performances, Hofner basses have become an absolute staple in most studios. This really great version in includes the original formit hard case.
