1972 Fender Stratocaster

This is a vintage 1972 Fender Stratocaster electric guitar in 100% all original condition. This particular large headstock example features a custom color Black finish, a maple neck with a single string tree, white plastic parts, and (3) staggered pole-piece pickups. Right on the cusp of being a 4-bolt “With Synchronized Tremolo” version, this very early first-generation 3-bolt (micro-tilt neck adjustment) construction guitar is the next best thing to a Hendrix-era Strat. As mentioned, this ’72 Strat is in all original condition, and correspondingly excellent cosmetic shape.

This ’72 Fender Strat features: a maple neck with bullet truss rod, Fender “F” tuning machines, a single string tree (as opposed to the next generation Strat which was outfitted with two), a light-weight Alder body with a Thick Skin® black polyurethane finish, white plastic pickguard with counter-sunk screw holes, a non-original tremolo arm (whammy bar), and an original Fender-logo hard case,

This clean example exhibits expected wear, but is for the most part very excellent. Aside from a couple dings on the front, and some superficial belt buckle worming on the back of the body, the guitar is highly attractive. Unlike most other examples, the maple neck is extremely clean, with virtually no visible wear, and no odd discoloration.

The frets display very little wear, and the overall condition of the guitar is a strong 8.5/10. As mentioned, and as pictured, the guitar includes a non-original tremolo arm. The maple neck feels incredible and the action is as smooth as warm butter. This generation gray bobbin pickups are outstanding, and this guitar is by no means an exception. Loud, clear, and with more warmth than the average Strat, these single-coil pickups epitomize the classic Strat sound. For sale is this vintage 1972 Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. This particular example, serial number 353902, is in very excellent 100% all original condition and includes the original hard shell case!

Both Jimi Hendrix and David Gilmour were famous for using Black large headstock Strats… and for good reason. These are genuinely great guitars with significant celebrity provenance and association.
