This is a vintage early-1970s Traynor YBA-1 Bass Master electric guitar amplifier head. This particular example, serial number 2010670, is in very excellent all original condition! Designed by Pete Traynor for the Canadian rental market, the finished product was a virtually indestructible amplifier with a well-constructed cabinet and tremendously over-built transformers. Famously considered the best amp for achieving incredibly accurate Plexi tone for less than 1/10th the price of a late-60’s 50w Marshall, the secret has long been out, yet somehow the price of these gems doesn’t reflect such.
Recently reissued by Traynor, the new YBA-1 sells for $650 plus shipping. As is typically the case, while the two amps are different, the original is both better sounding and a better investment. This example appears to have a mismatched set of vintage power tubes. However, it is otherwise 100% all original.
Though this amp does exhibit expected wear from general use, considering such, it has been nicely preserved. With several small snags and scuffs, the amp displays character while remaining quite presentable. It’s a perfect example for both players and collectors alike.
