This is a vintage 1969 Martin 00-18 flat top acoustic guitar. This particular example, serial number 253553, is in fair vintage condition. A prime player’s piece in moderate condition, this is that vintage Martin acoustic with enough mojo to be enjoyed, as opposed to a collector’s piece with which you’d handle with caution. Bang it around, scratch it up, and strum as hard as you like, this 00-18 can take it, as it already has. Why buy a new or used Martin for more, when you can buy a vintage one with tons of vibe for a fraction of what you would have to spend otherwise.
This ’69 Martin 00-18 features: a double bound body construction, a two-piece close-grain spruce top, original natural finish, bound mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers, a solid Brazilian headstock overlay, Grover sealed-back tuning machines, an Indian rosewood bridge, and a black plastic pickguard.
Although this guitar is structurally fine and sounds particularly good, there are a few issues that need to be addressed. Firstly, as is the case with most Martins from this era, the original black plastic pickguard is peeling up, and while this does not affect the guitar, it is somewhat unattractive. Secondly, there are a few severe cracks near the waist of the guitar, as well as, one small one near the bottom by the strap pin. Though they don’t appear to affect the integrity or sound of the guitar, they obviously need to be mentioned.
There are no top cracks, no back cracks, no headstock breaks, nor neck repairs. The action is quite nice and the guitar is easy to play. The original frets retain plenty of life, and with a suggested setup, this guitar will become a joy.
The guitar does not come with a case, though it will be packed and shipped appropriately.
