Here’s a vintage 1966 Rickenbacker M-88 electric guitar amplifier. This particular example, serial number 10733, is in excellent all original vintage condition. Akin to Fender’s coveted Tweed Champ, the Rickenbacker M-88 produces incredibly large tone from such an unassumingly petite package. Since most student amps were abused, mistreated, and poorly stored, it’s extremely rare to find an example this nice and original.
This ’66 Rickenbacker M-88 utilizes: (1) 5Y3, (1) 6V6, and (1) 12AU7 original tubes (Sylvania, RCA) through the original 1 x 8″ Jensen P8U Speaker. As mentioned, this amp is all original condition, including; the speaker, transformers, tubes, capacitors, and all other resistors, wiring, etc.,
With a sleek gray exterior and wheat-colored grillecloth, this amp certainly looks fantastic. But the best part about this little amp is the way it sounds. Almost a Champ clone, this is one of Ric’s better amps. Perfect for recording purposes and awesome as a small practice companion, this is the best way to get Tweed tone for much less than 1/3 the price of an expensive ’59 Champ!
