1966 Gibson J-200

This is a vintage 1966 Gibson J-200 jumbo flat top acoustic guitar. This particular example, serial number 849361, is in excellent all original condition and includes the original black hardshell case, the original owner’s manual (stamped “J-200″), as well as, other original ephemera. This is one of the coolest variations of the J-200, in that it features; a gold adjustable Tune-O-Matic bridge, a wide 1 11/16″ nut, a large volute and Kluson waffle-back tuning machines! It also happens to be the same version J-200 played by John Lennon, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend, Mick Jagger, and even Brian Jones. It would be difficult to imagine a better example.

The finish is near perfectly preserved with no visible cosmetic defects. The original finish on the back of the body is a slightly weather-checked, however, there is no checking visible on the rest of the instrument. Even the gold hardware in near pristine condition. In areas where there is typically slight wear, such as the headstock, back of the neck, sides of the guitar, etc., this guitar resembles that of a brand new instrument, with no evidence of storage wear, and no visible UV exposure or fading. In addition to this guitar being in near perfect physical condition, it is in perfect functional shape. The neck is perfectly straight sighting down both sides, the Klusons hold perfect tune, the frets are perfectly intact exhibiting minimal wear, the Tune-O-Matic allows for precise intonation, the neck heel and bridge are solid as the day it was made.

The guitar showcases this era’s signature J-200 sound, with a more focused balanced. Not quite as projective as an earlier SJ-200 or ’50s J-200, mostly because of the Tune-O-Matic bridge, it is intuitively and innately great for recording. While it lacks a little low-end, this actually enhances it’s accessibility to be interpreted by a microphone. This guitar has an after-market non-original transducer pickup currently installed with an input jack in the factory endpin hole. It also has a non-original gold strap pin in the heel.
