This is a vintage 1965 Supro 6422TR electric guitar amplifier. This particular example, serial number 1-16287, is in very nice all original condition, and features the very rare original red exterior. With a single 6V6 power tube, a 5Y3 rectifier tube, and four 12AX7 preamp tubes through a single 10″ Jensen, this compact combo produces more than a petite punch, and happens to be a fantastic recording amplifier. Quite possibly the best small single-ended amplifier made, it’s almost bewildering how Valco was able to extract the maximum output from the minimal design.
Serial Number: 1-16287
Transformer Codes: 5246509, 5246505, 524 65 02
Speaker Code: 220508 (Jensen, early-’65)
As previously mentioned, the small stature and unassuming size belie this Supro’s rich full-range tone. The over-sized 10″ speaker certainly translates the sound much better than a speaker more commonly associated with a single-6V6 amp, such as a 6″ or 8″ speaker. It is a very great small amp, definitely surpassing the large box narrow-panel Tweed Princeton in terms of overall projection and vibe, though also not surprisingly similar. The reverb is barely functional per the original specs., however it does enhance the gain when used. The tremolo works perfectly, sounds great and features incredibly versatile speed options.
The original red vinyl exterior is in excellent shape and remains incredibly bold and striking. The wheat-colored sparkle grillecloth is also crisp and intact with only a couple extremely small snags. It is highly presentable, and will undoubtedly attract the attention it deserves in any musical environment.
