1964 Fender Deluxe Reverb

This is a vintage 1964 Fender Deluxe Reverb -Amp electric guitar amplifier. This particular pre-CBS example, serial A02162, is in mint 100% all original condition and includes the original footswitch, original BLACK Victoria canvas cover (never seen another documented), original schematic sheet, and original “Tolex” hang tag! This full blown pre-CBS (July ’64) ‘No Logo’ Deluxe Reverb is not only one of the earliest Blackface examples, it also happens to be one of the best preserved! The tube chart indicates this Deluxe Reverb to be from production batch #5, which would suggest it is one of the first several hundred ever made. This is a very special amp in exceedingly brilliant 100% all original cosmetic condition.

Without a doubt one of the best all-purpose guitar amplifiers ever made, this Deluxe Reverb produces the most beautiful and quintessential Fender clean tone augmented by the incredibly musical, and seemingly extra dimensional, reverb and vibrato effects. The ’65 Blackface Deluxe Reverb was certainly one of Fender’s most anticipated reissue amps, and while the Blackface Deluxe Reverb was by no means produced in limited quantities, between 1964 and 1967, true first year pre-CBS examples are fairly rare.

Serial Number: A02162
Transformer Codes: -606-4-02, 606413, 606413, -606-4-20
Tube Chart: NG (July 1964)

This ’64 Fender Deluxe Reverb features: (1) Mullard GZ34 rectifier tube, (2) RCA 6V6 power tubes, (2) RCA 12AT7s, (3) RCA 7025s, and (1) Tung Sol 12AX7, all of which are original tubes, through an original 1 x 12″ Oxford 12K5-6 speaker.

This fine ’64 Fender Deluxe Reverb is in near perfect all original condition. The original grille cloth is perfectly intact, unfaded and bright. There are no rips, no snags, and no evidence of even the slightest fraying. The original vinyl tolex is in correspondingly perfect shape. The Blackface control panel is amongst the nicest I have documented, and all of the corresponding hardware is original. It displays more like a reissue than one of its vintage, and would nicely complement any existing collection or rig.

As stated, this amp is in near mint condition and 100% all original shape. The speaker, speaker cone, transformers, power cable, caps (even all electrolytics), and all of the tubes are original. It sounds fantastic, and produces the uncanny beautiful bell-like Blackface tone for which Deluxe Reverbs have become the absolute epitome. When the Volume exceeds “6,” the amp nicely overdrives in a very smooth manner. Of course, the Reverb is endlessly mesmerizing, and you could relish in its geometrically perfect decay that is atypically smooth, yet organic. Nothing sounds like it.
