1962 Gretsch Corvette 6132

Here’s a vintage 1962 Gretsch Corvette 6132 electric guitar. This very clean 100% all original example, serial number 43420, happens to have been manufactured during the first year of production and even includes the original soft shell case in correspondingly fine shape! Unlike the popular Jet models, the Corvette is a true solidbody, with contours and cutaways reminiscent of its concurrent competitor, the Gibson Les Paul SG Junior (Jr.).

Though this particular ’62 Gretsch Corvette 6132 has a serial number indicating a 1961 production, it does not feature a slab non-contoured body nor high-gloss silver lucite pickguards, rather it was produced amongst the absolute first batches of those with the more recognizable design innovations, including; the cherry red mahogany body with contours, a mahogany neck with Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, a black pickguard with the black truss cover below the fingerboard mounted atop the pickguard, a single-coil HiLoTron pickup, chrome G arrow knobs, single-line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines, a bar bridge with a rosewood base, a trapeze tailpiece, knurled strap pins, and an original brown soft case with yellow interior.

This no issues Gretsch 6132 Corvette is in perfect structural shape with no breaks, no cracks, no repairs, and no modifications. The pot codes are “6205.” The original cherry red finish is highly preserved with no visible fading, no significant playing wear, and expected finish checking. Aside from two rub marks on the face of the body, there are really no noticeable flaws. The bridge’s rosewood base left some finish scratches in the area from slipping and spinning, and there are of course random dings on the back of the body. In fact, the back of the body is in much cleaner condition than the front.

The guitar plays great, and the pickup sounds fantastic. The HiLoTron pickup produces a really musical sound, with a tonality completely unique to the Corvette. The pickup measures 2.813Ω, though the low resistance does not accurately convey the strength of the output. It weighs just a hair over 6 lbs. (6 lbs. 2 oz. to be exact) and is actually quite acoustic in nature. Overall, it’s actually a great guitar in very nice condition.
