1962 Gretsch “6161” Dual Twin

Here’s a vintage 1962 Gretsch “6161” Dual Twin electric guitar amplifier. This particular example, serial number T66149, is in very excellent, near MINT, 100% all original condition and includes the original footswitch! While not cosmetically identical to it’s ’50s counterpart, this generation 6161 shares many important schematic elements, while it sports a decidedly more modern offset wrap-around grill cloth design to better complement concurrent Gretsch guitars featuring cases with an identical vinyl tolex pattern. Whether you’re interested in finding a beautiful matching amp for your late-’50s to early-’60s Gretsch guitar, been waiting for an absolute tone monster, or you’re an amp enthusiast with an eye for the exotic, this is an incredibly cool find.

Serial Number: T66149
Speaker Codes: 285208, 285207, 285207 (Rola)
Transformer Codes: 166136

Although the serial number designates a ’61 completion date, the original speakers are stamped with an early ’62 production date (8th week of ’62).

This ’62 Gretsch 6161 features an entirely matching original set of RCA vacuum tubes, including; (1) 5Y3, (2) 6973, and (3) 12AX7s, through the original (2) 6 x 11″ Rola elliptical speakers, as well as the original Rola tweeter.

This perfectly intact and well-preserved example is in 100% all original condition. From the off-white piping and sparkle wheat grill cloth to every last capacitor and each individual tube, this amp remains entirely original.

This 14-watt output twin-elliptical speaker amp sounds like a sweet-sounding Tweed Deluxe. The gorgeous overdrive with natural compression makes most guitars sound incredible. Perfect for both recording and in-home enjoyment alike, the dual 6V6 power tubes are more than enough to satisfy.
