1962 Gibson ES-140T 3/4

Here is a vintage 1962 Gibson ES-140T 3/4 scale hollowbody electric guitar. This particular example, serial number 48787, is in near mint 100% all original condition and includes the original hang tag, as well as, the original Lifton brown hard shell case with pink interior! Stored in the original case since purchased new almost 55 years ago, it would be difficult to imagine a better example. Clean, crisp, shiny, and sheen, this guitar better resembles a brand new guitar than one of its vintage. Both for the collector and the player, the ES-140T comes highly recommended by most guitarists regardless of style or taste. Made with the identical build-quality, precision, materials, and hardware, as all other full-size Gibson guitars, their 3/4-sized instruments have received the rightful reputation for being the best small/student guitars ever made. They have since evolved from being considered high-quality children’s instruments into being perceived as guitars with fantastic voices for recording applications, and perfectly petite for practice purposes. Of all the variants; thick-body, thin-body, non-cutaway, cutaway, this particular version is the most desirable, and is the absolute inspiration for the proverb “great things come in small packages.”

This ’62 Gibson ES-140T features: bound laminated maple top and back, mahogany sides, a thinline body profile with a Florentine cutaway, the original 3-tone Tobacco Sunburst finish, a one-piece mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, single-line Kluson Deluxe 3-in-a-row tuning machines, (1) P-90 pickup, an adjustable rosewood bridge, a Trapeze tailpiece, gold insert reflector knobs, a 22 3/4″ scale length, and the original baby Lifton hard shell case.

This is an extremely fine 100% all original example. The original nitrocellulose finish is perfectly preserved. The only cosmetic distraction are two superficial scratches resultant from un-cut strings hanging from the tuner post. Otherwise, there is no fret wear nor pick wear. The hardware is incredibly attractive, and there is no other patina, discoloration, or fading to mention. No weather-checking is present in/on the finish, and even the original case is extremely clean.

The guitar plays great, and was recently setup with Pyramid .009 gauge vintage style nickel strings. It is a sheer delight to play, so be prepared, you might no put it down once you pick it up! Being a 1962, this guitar comes with factory large frets. Considering the smaller proportions, this simple attribute renders this guitar with action so ridiculously slinky and easy to play, that you wish you would have had it while learning. Regardless, it is extremely enjoyable and tons of fun to play. The neck isn’t notoriously shallow nor small, and is just like those made prior.
