This is a vintage 1962 Gibson EB-0 electric bass guitar. This particular example, serial number 96038, is in perfect structural condition with some originality issues with respect to the hardware. While the bass does not have any cracks, breaks, or repairs, and still retains the very attractive original, and well-preserved, cherry red finish, it would make a great and simple restoration project or player’s bass.
This example features; the original cherry finish, a solid mahogany body and one-piece mahogany neck, Brazilian rosewood fretboard, original nickel two point bar bridge, original Kluson 538 tuning machines, the original pickguard, original finger rest, all original pots and wiring and an original humbucking pickup (28.40K).
The original cherry finish has faded very attractively. All the original hardware is intact and very nice, void of serious oxidation. As can be seen in the photos, a Badass Bass bridge had been used in lieu of the original bridge years ago and left behind non-original holes and a corresponding un-faded patch in between the bridge studs. The added holes do not affect the structural integrity of the original bridge.
The original pickup cover was replaced with a nickel cover, and should have the black cover with the small black plastic surround as well. This mid-60s pickup cover was never mounted to the bass, as it would have resulted in additional holes. The original silver-insert top hat knobs have been replaced with Tele knobs and one of the Tele knobs is missing the allen wrench screw to tighten the knob to the pot. The bass is also missing the original strap pins.
While this bass not be entirely original, it is a great bass for those looking for a project, as the bass itself still looks great and plays amazing. The neck is still straight feels fantastic to play. The bass weighs a super light 7 lbs 3 oz.
