This is a vintage 1962 Fender Jazzmaster electric guitar. This particular example, serial number 75769, is a 100% all original example and includes the original tremolo arm and brown vinyl case. This guitar was purchased from the original owner, and during inspection it became evident that not a single screw had been turned since originally put together in mid-1962. Experts, enthusiasts, and players all usually agree that 1962 happens to be the most magical year for Fender instruments, and this Jazzmaster epitomizes such beliefs perfectly. The generous slab of rosewood, beautiful nitro-finished 3-tone sunburst alder body, and amazingly rich black-bobbin pickups combine to make this Jazzmaster extremely special.
As previously mentioned, this guitar is in 100% all original condition. This no issues, no excuses, and no stories guitar was only first dis-assembled for inspection and verification last week. We were careful and cautious enough to put all of the original screws in their correspondingly original holes. This beautiful pre-CBS ’62 Jazzmaster features: a gorgeous nitrocellulose 3-tone sunburst finish over a light-weight alder body, a Brazilian rosewood slab board fingerboard with clay dot inlays on a maple neck, a spaghetti logo decal, an attractive tortoise pattern pickguard, original single-line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines, robust black bobbin large P-90-style single-coil pickups, the floating tremolo system with the original arm, all original hardware, and the original brown vinyl case.
Upon visual inspection, it is clear that while being well taken care of, it was used mildly. There is evidence of belt buckle wear on the back of the body, minimal finish wear on the back of the neck, very very minimal arm wear, and the typical random dings and indentations in general areas. Aside from the aforementioned cosmetic issues, the guitar is in otherwise excellent condition. The original pickguard is beautiful and void of typical cracks, chips, and shrinkage problems. The hardware exhibits pick wear, but is still shiny and oxidation free. The pickup covers too, are not cracked and in excellent structural condition. The finish has only faded slightly, and the coloring is beautiful. It weighs 7 lbs. and 6 oz.
Most importantly, the guitar plays unbelievably well, feels fantastic, and sounds incredible. It truly is one of the best Jazzmasters we have owned since we can remember. The original frets are still entirely intact with only the slightest bit of playing wear on the first 3 frets. The slab board fingerboard does not display grooves or wear, and is incredibly comfortable. The neck profile is medium-sized, and possibly considered to be on medium/large. The delicately worn neck finish makes the neck feel like an old worn-in baseball glove: intuitive, comfortable, and inspiring. All 6 tuning machines work perfectly without hesitation or slipping.
Surprisingly, the guitar does not exhibit the usual weather-checking, which enhances the appearance of the condition. Due to this, the top of the guitar would rate a 9/10. It looks that good. All of the electronics work perfectly and sound amazing. The large single-coil Jazzmaster pickups offer a very unique Fender sound, only achievable with a Jazzmaster. With rich warm robust bite, the growl of this Jazzmaster makes the tone from a Jaguar or Strat sound like a whimper.
The case is also in excellent condition, however, the accessory compartment is a bit flimsy. While it is present and nice, it might need reinforcement.
