This is a vintage 1960 Gretsch “6156″ Playboy electric guitar amplifier. This particular example, serial number T29124, is in absolutely mint 100% all original condition and includes the original Artistic canvas cover and era-appropriate gray instrument cable! While not cosmetically identical to it’s ’50s counterpart, this generation 6156 shares many important schematic elements, while it sports a decidedly more modern offset wrap-around grillecloth design to better complement concurrent Gretsch guitars featuring cases with an identical vinyl tolex pattern. Whether you’re interested in finding a beautiful matching amp for your late-’50s to early-’60s Gretsch guitar, been waiting for an absolute tone monster, or you’re an amp enthusiast with an eye for the exotic, this is an incredibly cool find.
Serial Number: T29124
Speaker Code: 285001 (Rola)
This 1960 Gretsch 6156 features an entirely matching original set of RCA vacuum tubes, including; (1) 5Y3, (2) 6973, and (3) 12AX7s, through the original 1 x 10″ Rola speaker.
This impeccably intact and perfectly-preserved example is in 100% all original condition. From the off-white piping and unfaded sparkle wheat grille cloth to every last capacitor and each individual tube, this amp remains entirely original. Better yet, this amp works perfectly and sounds absolutely amazing. When made under the Supro moniker, that version is designated 1624, 1624T and 1624TN. Commonly associated with Jimmy Page, the Supro 1624 is arguably the most desirable and best-sounding Valco amp made, and coinincidentally, with the exeption of the aesthetic presentation only, this amp is absolutely identical.
