This is a vintage 1960 Gibson Les Paul Junior electric guitar. This particular example, serial number 011194, is in fair original condition and includes a non-original hard case. The Les Paul Jr. has arguably become the most revered “student” or “budget” model guitar ever produced. The simple features that made the Jr. affordable back then are the exact same that make it so great today. With a single P-90 pickup and an all mahogany slab body/neck construction, the no frills Les Paul Jr. produces simply great tone! Not to mention the fact that most other 1950s guitars that don the ‘Les Paul’ silk screen are worth considerably more. This perfect player’s example has been slightly modified, which makes it a more affordable and a better performing instrument.
As mentioned, this ’60 Les Paul Jr. has been modified and is not all original. The alterations include; filled holes that were required for the installation of Schaller tuning machines, replaced wrap-around tailpiece and studs, replaced reissue knobs, and repaired trauma cracks along each side of the fingerboard which were oversprayed.
Otherwise, the following is original;
– original Cherry Red finish
– original P-90 pickup
– all original electronics and pots
– original pickguard
– original input jack plate
– original re-installed Kluson tuners
– original pickup cover
– original Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard
– original factory medium-large frets
– non-broken body
– non-broken neck heel
– original truss rod cover
– all original screws, pointer washers, etc
The repaired cracks on the sides of the fingerboard are result of a fairly uncommon type of stress or trauma. The neck heel is intact and crisp, the headstock is also intact and unbroken, however, the repaired cracks run almost parallel to the fingerboard from the nut to the 3rd fret. The original P-90, which measures 7.84Ω, sounds fantastic, and the guitar features an extremely comfortable thin neck shape profile with factory large frets. Easy to play and light weight ( 7lbs. 2 oz.), this is a fantastic player’s piece. It includes a non-original hard case made by Epiphone.
