This is a vintage 1957 Gibson CF-100E flat top acoustic electric guitar with the original chipboard alligator case. This particular example, serial number U 1903 10, belonged to Dolores Fuller, who both starred in several Ed Wood films and wrote songs for Elvis Presley. This interesting celebrity provenance doesn’t enhance the value much, but it sure is a great story!
This example is in very good cosmetic condition. Structurally, it has one unrepaired top crack and 2 unrepaired back cracks. There are no side cracks nor input jack cracks. The neck is structurally perfect as is the neck joint. The action is fantastic, and the guitar plays great.
Produced in small quantities between 1950-1958, this short-lived model was one of the earliest to sport a cutaway, and the first to have both said cutaway and a pickup. With a single-coil P-90 pickup placed above (north of) the soundhole and an X-braced pattern, this small-body instrument is actually a highly versatile and fantastic sounding guitar; both as an electric and an acoustic.
