Here is a vintage 1956 Gibson Les Paul Special electric guitar in TV Yellow finish. This particular example, serial number 615014, is in very excellent 100% all original condition and includes the original Lifton “California Girl” brown hardshell case. This no issues example is clean with no breaks, no cracks, no repairs, and no modifications whatsoever. The Gibson Les Paul Special in TV yellow finish is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic electric guitars ever made. This beautifully preserved example has enough subtle mojo for it to still be enjoyable, rather than nerve-wrecking, to play, and happens to be the lightest Les Paul Special we’ve ever owned, weighing 6 lbs. 15 oz.
This ’56 Gibson TV Yellow Les Paul Special features; a single-cutaway slab mahogany body with a TV Yellow finish, 2 soap-bar P-90 pickups, stop bar/roll over tailpiece, a bound Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, an inlayed pearl âGibsonâ logo, single-line Kluson tuning machines, original top hat control knobs, a 3-ply (b/w/b) pickguard, nickel plated parts, and an original Lifton Cali Girl brown hardshell case with pink interior.
Extremely light weight, and with a neck profile that is absolutely incredible, this is one of the best player’s examples we’ve had the pleasure of offering online. It is incredibly comfortable to play, and responds with considerable resonance. The original P-90 pickups are loud and robust, and the acoustic qualities produce a fantastic sustaining envelope effect. It looks and feels great, but it sounds awesome.
Interestingly, this particular examples TV Yellow finish has a very rich amber coloring, which does not appear to be the result of fading or exposure to other environmental elements, since areas hidden under hardware appear very similar to those areas which are not. The finish is very consistent, and is not blotchy nor worn in the usual areas with higher playing contact. The general condition is very nice, and there is sparse and sporadic case wear and extraneous superficial dings. Otherwise, there is no significant playing wear, no belt buckle rash, no pick wear, no neck wear, and minimal fret wear.
The original Lifton California Girl hard case is that which is also appropriate for late-’50s Les Paul Bursts, and can sell for as much as $2,500.00 on its own. This is a great no-issues all original package in very nice collector’s condition.
